Song Of The Day 1972: Mott The Hoople - Sea Diver

Starting this week, I will be featuring 5 songs a week from one particular year - this week it's 1972.

Mott The Hoople were about to call it quits when David Bowie stepped in and offered them one of his songs to record. That song was All The Young Dudes, which resurrected Mott's career. Bowie ended up producing the album which was released on September 8, 1972.  [September 8th is my birthday!]  Today's Song of The Day is the final track from All The Young Dudes - it's called Sea Diver.  It's a piano ballad written by singer Ian Hunter.  I could not find an appropriate video of the Mott version, so I've included a recent video of Ian Hunter performing Sea Diver, along with a player for the audio to the original 1972 song. Please enjoy.
