Day 14-15 of my Horror Film Marathon

White Zombie (1932)

Madeline and Neil are invited to a plantation deep within Haiti by someone they barely know, Charles Beaumont.  Beaumont is in love with Madeline and enlists the help of the evil 'Murder' Legendre, to stop the couple from getting married.  'Murder,' played by the great Bela Lugosi, turns the young bride into a zombie.  I had never seen White Zombie before, and for the most part, enjoyed it.  At times, the acting is a bit over the top, but that's also part of it's charm.  Definitely worth watching.

Interesting trivia from IMDB:

1.  The film was considered lost until it was rediscovered in the 1960s.
2.  Actor Bela Lugosi was rumored to only have received $800 for his role.
3.  White Zombie was filmed in only 11 days.
4.  Some of the same sets were used from the recent films Dracula, Frankenstein and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
5.  Yes, the band White Zombie was named after this film.

Suck (2009)

Suck is the story of a down-and-out rock band whose fame grows as its members turn into vampires, one-by-one.  Special guest stars include Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, Moby, Alex Lifeson (from Rush) and the great Malcolm McDowell (Clockwork Orange).  The killer soundtrack includes tracks by David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop and more.  Suck is definitely more comedy than horror, but who cares... it's a pretty rad movie.

In the near future, Suck will be considered a cult classic!
