Song Of The Day 1982: Virgin Prunes - Pagan Lovesong

The Virgin Prunes were an insanely-original band from Dublin, Ireland - and their debut record, 1982's ...If I Die, I Die is an often-overlooked 80s gem. Though the LP was produced by Wire's Colin Newman, today's featured song was produced by Nick Launay, who has worked with artists like Nick Cave, Talking  Heads, Arcade Fire, Kate Bush, etc. You may know nothing about the Prunes, other than the brother of U2's The Edge is the guitar player, or you be hearing their name for the very first time... regardless, if you've never heard 'Pagan Lovesong' before, you are in for a treat. Song Of The Day 2011: Gavin Friday - Land On The Moon

In the midst of our feature on some really rad b-sides, I'll be sprinkling in some great stuff that has been released in 2011. Keep up on my daily postings by clicking LIKE over at the Life On This Planet Facebook Page.

A few months ago, Gavin Friday released catholic - his first solo album in 16 years. The former leader of Ireland's radical, post-punk innovators The Virgin Prunes, Gavin Friday has created an incredibly diverse body of work. Recent years have seen him working on movie scores, theatre productions and a few roles on the big screen. Catholic contains 11 original pieces and is produced by Ken Thomas, who has worked with everybody from Cocteau Twins to Sigur Ros to Throbbing Gristle. Thomas's daughter, Amy Odell, provides the beautiful backing vocals on today's featured song. Please give Land On The Moon a listen - it gave me chills the very first time.

Song Of The Day 1986: Virgin Prunes - Love Lasts Forever

This week Life On This Planet will be featuring songs from 1986.

The Virgin Prunes were an Irish band from 1977-1986.  The members were friends of U2, and even the Prunes' guitar player was The Edge's brother.  A truly unique band that produced some really interesting records.  Love Lasts Forever is today's featured song and comes from their final album The Moon Looked Down And Laughed.  Please enjoy.
