Starting this week, I will be featuring 5 songs a week from one particular year - this week it's 1972.
Concluding the 1972 week here on Life On This Planet, is Neil Diamond's Play Me, from the album Moods. I love this song - so much that I recorded a version around 7 years ago (unreleased). I've included two videos below - live versions from the 70s and present day. Please enjoy and have a great weekend. :)

Mott The Hoople were about to call it quits when David Bowie stepped in and offered them one of his songs to record. That song was All The Young Dudes, which resurrected Mott's career. Bowie ended up producing the album which was released on September 8, 1972. [September 8th is my birthday!] Today's Song of The Day is the final track from All The Young Dudes - it's called Sea Diver. It's a piano ballad written by singer Ian Hunter. I could not find an appropriate video of the Mott version, so I've included a recent video of Ian Hunter performing Sea Diver, along with a player for the audio to the original 1972 song. Please enjoy.

Pink Moon was the third (and final) album released in the short lifetime of British singer/songwriter Nick Drake. The entire album was recorded in just two late-night, two-hour sessions. It is a beautiful piece of work. Please enjoy.

Rex is mostly known for Bang A Gong (Get It On), which appeared on 1971's Electric Warrior. Metal Guru leads off Side One of 1972's The Slider - the seventh album by T. Rex. This should be in your collection! Please enjoy.
Starting this week, I will be featuring 5 songs a week from one particular year. To start things off, this week is 1972 - a great year for music. Roxy Music's debut album was released in 1972 and featured today's song - 2HB, dedicated to Humphrey Bogart. Back in the late 90s, an all-star band assembled for the soundtrack of the movie Velvet Goldmine recorded a version of 2HB with Radiohead's Thom Yorke on vocals. Check that version out here.
