I saw this one back when it was released, and it just happened to be on cable last night. It's the story of the making of the classic silent film, Nosferatu
, except the actor portraying the Count Dracula-like role really IS a vampire. Willem Dafoe is great as Max Schreck / Count Orlok. In the film, director F.W. Murnau - played by John Malkovich - makes a pact with Schreck to be in his movie, in exchange for a prize: the lead actress in Nosferatu, Greta Schroeder. Schreck has a hard time 'behaving,' and causes all kinds of problems. :)This film is partially based on a legend that the real Max Schreck was a real vampire and only acted in one film, however, he had many roles before and after the original Nosferatu
