Peter Murphy & the late Mick Karn Release Second Dalis Car - InGladAloneness

New Release:  Dalis Car - InGladAloneness EP

After the breakup of Bauhaus in 1983, singer Peter Murphy collaborated with bass player Mick Karn (of the band Japan) to record a one-off album - The Waking Hour - under the name Dalis Car. The two reunited in 2010, recording a collection of songs for a second Dalis Car release. Unfortunately, Mick Karn passed away in January 2011, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Back in July 2011, the first track from the upcoming, 5-song EP hit the world wide web - in the meantime, it's been a long wait to get the remainder of the EP called InGladAloneness.

Today the wait ends - grab the EP at the link below. As far as I can tell, the EP is available only digitally, as the very-limited, physical copies are already sold out at Mick Karn's site. I'm really digging these songs, especially the acoustic beauty of 'If You Go Away' - let me know what you think.

Song Of The Day 2012: The Cranberries - Tomorrow

New Release 2012:  The Cranberries - Roses LP

'Dreams,' 'Linger,' 'Zombie,' and 'Ode To My Family' are just four of the brilliant songs that The Cranberries released early in their career. If you fell out of touch with the band over the years, they've just returned from a hiatus - not having released an album since 2001's Wake Up And Smell The Coffee. On February 21st, the Irish quartet - fronted by singer Dolores O'Riordan - will be releasing their sixth full-length, entitled Roses. The new album was produced by Stephen Street, who not only worked the band's most successful material, but also produced The Smiths. Check out the first single, 'Tomorrow'. Please enjoy.

David Bowie's 1999 LP 'Hours...' Gets Reissued Today

Approximately thirteen years ago, David Bowie released his 21st album, Hours... Although it contained some beautiful compositions like 'Thursday's Child,' 'Seven,' and 'Survive' - it was the first Bowie LP to miss the Top 40 since the release of Ziggy Stardust back in 1972. Hours... is/was a more acoustic-driven, slightly nostalgic album - a sonic departure from the beat-heavy Earthling from just two years prior.

Hours... has been out of print for quite a few years, and today Friday Music has re-released it as the 'Collector's Edition.' This version includes the original album, along with 5 bonus tracks - two of them remixes, a demo of 'Seven,' a film version of 'The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell' and 'We All Go Through' - a song that only appeared on the Omikron: The Nomad Soul video game. Today marks the release of a new batch of songs from Peter Murphy, in the form of The Secret Bees of Ninth EP. Available only in digital form, Secret Bees collects additional material that didn't make it onto this year's Ninth album. It includes 4 unreleased songs, an extended version of Ninth's 'Secret Silk Society,' and the single 'Seesaw Sway.'

Glen Campbell Releases His Farewell Album - Ghost On The Canvas: A Review

Glen Campbell. The country music legend. The variety show host. The phenomenal guitar player, studio musician, touring member of The Beach Boys. The face in that horrible mugshot. The family man whose live band includes five of his children. The journey and the end of the road.

By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman - I remember all three of you on the jukebox at Arthur's Grill on Mannheim Road in Stone Park, Illinois, where my brothers and I would go with our parents after Little League games. Those songs and memories are an irreplaceable part of my past. Years later, I rediscovered Campbell with the release of 2008's Meet Glen Campbell, which featured amazing covers of U2, The Replacements, Tom Petty, Green Day, Foo Fighters, The Velvet Underground, John Lennon, etc. Like Johnny Cash's Rick Rubin-produced albums, Campbell breathes new life into those songs, with a voice backed by an entire lifetime of knowledge.

A few months back, Campbell announced that he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and would be concluding his career with a final album and tour. Ghost On The Canvas is a stellar farewell. Producer Julian Raymond gathered an all-star lineup of musical guests to tip their hats and add their flair - Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Dick Dale, Jakob Dylan, Keith Urban, Brian Setzer, Chris Isaak, Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices), Dandy Warhols...the list goes on. Former Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg - for who Campbell recorded a brilliant cover of his Sadly Beautiful on 2008's Meet Glen Campbell - contributes two songs: the outstanding title track and Any Trouble.

This is an atypical review for me, because I'm not going to get into the individual songs, however I will tell you this: I've listened to this record countless times already, and when the final notes of There's No Me...Without You fade away, I find myself immediately starting it over and over again.

The songs reflect on his life and its approaching conclusion. It's filled with words of wisdom from someone who has achieved serenity from a lifetime of highs and lows. It's an album that makes you think of that first beer you drank with your father on a Sunday afternoon, or playing pool in a basement with wood paneling and a couple of beer signs on the walls. It makes me sad that this is Glen Campbell's farewell. Without a doubt - FIVE STARS.

U2's Achtung Baby 20th Anniversary Editions

If you were like me, you waited with a blank tape in the VCR for the premiere of U2's new video The Fly on MTV, in October 1991. It was a long wait from 1987's The Joshua Tree - Rattle And Hum helped a little - and I couldn't wait to see the new direction they were going to take.

I bought Achtung Baby the day it came out - on cassette - at Tower Records in Mesa, Arizona. That was November 19, 1991. From start to finish, it is a brilliant album. One, Until The End Of The World, The Fly, Ultraviolet, Acrobat, Love Is Blindness, Zoo Station... I'm practically naming the entire album! 

Fast forward 20 years (has it really been this long? yikes). As U2 are saying, Achtung Baby is no longer a baby. :) The band is reissuing their first album of the 1990s in several different 20th anniversary editions.
